Dufferin Child and Family Services is currently seeking Volunteer Board Members.

Together with the support of our Executive Director, you will oversee our strategic direction, monitor our performance, quality, risk and ensure sustainable operations.
You will engage in generative dialogue and contribute to making strategic decisions that will ensure DCAFS continues to play a leading role as a children’s services provider in Dufferin County.

You will contribute your time in a meaningful and rewarding way, grow professionally and together with your Board colleagues, make a noticeable difference to our organization and to the people we serve.

Headwaters Family Visit Centre On Site Volunteer

Families with this program are involved in high-conflict custody and access disputes in Family Court. This position involves supervising access visits and exchanges between parent(s) and children and completing observation notes of these visits.  This position may be of special interest to persons enrolled in a university of college program geared toward the helping professions as you will gain skills required for your chosen profession.

Position:

On-Site Volunteer, Headwaters Family Visit Centre

Reports to:

Program Co-ordinator, Headwaters Family Visit Centre

Responsibilities:

Provides supervision of visits and exchanges during assigned duty hours and facilitates positive exchanges and visits between the non-custodial parents and their children while supporting custodial parents through the process. Assures that supervised activities for children and their parents are available. During exchanges and visits the volunteer attends to the safety of children. Assumes responsibility to report to an On-Site Supervisor, situations which require intervening with an exchange or visit where the atmosphere becomes problematic or there is an assessed risk of safety for a child or parent. Consults with the On-Site Supervisor concerning new referrals to the centre and updates on present exchange and visiting arrangements.

Other duties as assigned by the Program Co-ordinator or On Site Supervisor. Attends conferences, meetings seminars, etc. to enhance professional growth and maintains current familiarity with relevant legislation and agency policies and procedures pertinent to the Family Visit Centre. Other duties as assigned by the Program Co-ordinator or On Site Supervisor.

Key Relationship:

Maintains a positive friendly relationship with program clients.
Maintain a positive working relationship with the Program Coordinator and all other staff and volunteers of the Centre.

Essential Skills:

A relevant diploma in the human services field from a recognized community college or a bachelor degree in a human services area would be an asset but is not required.
Good knowledge of child development.
Demonstrates sound judgement, reasoning and decision making skills.
Have good communication skills and good written skills.
